Custom Wheel Building
We build hand-made wheels to order for road, mountain, gravel, touring or pretty much any other type of wheel to suit your requirements
Your custom wheels can be built using your quality hubs and rims. We are somewhat brand agnostic and there is so much choice out there, but if you are having custom wheels built, it pays to use quality parts.
We supply the spokes, nipples and washers for our custom wheels, use quality brands like Pillar, DT Swiss and Sapim.
Wheel Repairs
We will look at repairs on pretty much any bicycle wheel; Mountain, Road, Gravel, Retro, Carbon or Alloy.
If your rim looks like the one in the pic, we can fit a new rim for you. If you have loose spokes, buckles, or just aren’t sure about the integrity of your wheel, we can have a look at it and let you know what might be required.
If you have alloy spoke nipples, and they are corroding, or are breaking, we can replace the old nipples with stronger and more resilient brass nipples that will withstand the salty environment near the coast in Sydney.
We use quality spokes and nipples when repairing, rebuilding or making custom wheels. We can source replacement rims or hubs for your repair, or we are happy for you to supply them, at no extra charge.
We have a spoke cutting and threading machine, so can more easily have the right spokes on hand for your repair.
There is no charge for a preliminary evaluation of your wheel. If we don’t think it is an economical repair, we will discuss this with you straight away.
Sometimes an issue isn’t evident when we start a repair, such as a crack or corrosion, and the wheel can subsequently turn out to be unviable or uneconomical to repair. We won’t charge you for the work done to that point unless you have specifically agreed to that, and we will return the wheel to you as it is at that time.
Wheel Rebuilds
If you have a good pair of wheels that has seen better days and you think they just need some TLC to get them back to being great wheels again, then let me have a look at them. An initial quick evaluation is free. A rebuild with new parts onto your existing hubs, or even just a loosening and retensioning/trueing the spokes can give your favourite wheels a new lease of life. It is generally a very low cost compared to a new quality wheelset.
Who we are
I have been building wheels since I was 15, initally building my race wheels when the spokes in the wheels from the shop became loose. Then it was building my friend’s race wheels too, and for my vintage bikes, mountain bikes and touring bikes over the years. My son reminded me he helped with lacing wheels on the kitchen table, which was often done in the evening after dinner.
My corporate career disappeared with Covid, but the bike industry boomed and soon I was working 2 days a week as a professional wheel builder building high end mountain bike and road bike wheels. It was great to be back doing something tangible with my hands, and doing something that I have loved over many decades as a hobby. I still build wheels there, but now also have a wheel building workshop at home to provide independent wheel building and repair services directly to cyclists and the bicycle industry.
